Who We Are
The Division of Surgical Education is a part of The Department of Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center. It is directed by Arnold Byer, M.D., vice chairman of The Department of Surgery, assisted by Gregory Gallina, M.D., attending in The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery, and coordinated by Annette Schmidt, surgical coordinator. The Division of Surgical Education is integrated with the surgical student and residency program of The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - New Jersey Medical School (UMDNJ) in Newark. This division also includes several free-standing fellowship programs in laparoendoscopic and robotic surgery, and bariatric surgery, with new programs being offered July 1, 2005 in surgical oncology, breast diseases, and vascular surgery.

The Bariatric Surgery Fellowship Program is under the direction of Hans Schmidt, M.D. and Rafael Capella, M.D., attendings in The Department of Surgery.
The Breast Fellowship is under the direction of Stanley E. Waintraub, M.D., director of The Betty Torricelli Institute for Breast Care.
Endovascular Education is under the direction of Gregory Simonian, M.D.
Vascular Surgery Education is under the direction of Massimo Napolitano, M.D.
Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory and Education is under the direction of the chief of Vascular Surgery, Charles Moss, M.D.
