About Us

The Division of Surgical Research, part of The Department of Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, participates in and oversees basic and clinical research projects conducted by its members. 

Our physicians participate in many multi-center research protocols to enhance knowledge of newer and better modalities for the surgical management of a variety of disorders. Basic research is also performed, as well as translational research, which involves taking basic discovery and applying it to patient care.

The division is under the direction of Arnold Byer, M.D., chief of the division and vice chairman of The Department of Surgery.
